Canon EOS 550D incorporates a newly developed 18-Megapixel APS-C sized Canon CMOS sensor. By employing gapless microlens technology and further shortening the distance between microlenses and photodiodes, CMOS’s light-gathering capabilities is greatly strengthened and effectively reduces noises and boosts the dynamic range. Moreover, the new photodiodes construction with enhanced photoelectric conversion rate improves signal to noise ratio and make high ISO speeds possible. EOS 550D is the first entry-level EOS Digital SLR camera to incorporate a CMOS sensor featuring 4-channel output, achieving fast transfer of massive image data. This enables a continuous shooting speed at 3.7 frames per second of 18-Megapixel images and Full HD (1920 x 1080) movie shooting at 30 frame per second.
